The Sierra Leone Music Project

WAYout's flagship project is working in Sierra Leone to enable young people to express themselves and in expressing themselves by producing music, accessing equipment and gain opportunities through their creativity. The young people will benefit from the project creatively, socially and economically; creatively, providing an opportunity to produce music and explore their talents; socially, providing an opportunity to voice their opinions and feelings; and economically, providing them with job opportunities and security for their future.

WAYout - our aims, vision and goals

WAYout aims to be a dynamic, innovative, high-impact arts-based social charity.

Our vision is for young people from deprived and disadvantaged communities across the world to have access to and take part in music, film, the arts and media, providing access to facilities, resources and training to allow young people to express themselves through creativity. Our mission is to empower young people to express themselves creatively.

Working in some of the most deprived areas and poorest countries in the world we aim to:
  • manage, promote and assist the arts and arts projects for the benefit of the local and general communities; disadvantaged young people and communities across the world.
  • develop and sustain community education and creative development programmes tailored to individuals’  and communities’ needs
  • provide of recreational, educational and production facilities and resources, such as music studios, training in arts and media, and film facilities
  • enhance individuals’ economic welfare and wellbeing through empowering them to earn through their art
  • develop long lasting relationships with partner organisations for the benefit of the projects, young people, and the general community 
  • relieve hardship by providing subsidies to access arts-based projects
  • capacity build grassroots projects and organisations to ensure long term sustainability of programme

The charity will be working initially, but not solely, on projects in West Africa, and will be looking at opportunities to work in deprived communities in the UK and other countries.
