Women’s Media Group success in Bo County
We are very proud of the women’s project in Bondurbu village, Bo County.
We now have a media group. Following Susan Kargbo’s documentary ‘Abused’, which looked at domestic abuse in the provinces, where the law protects but culture doesn’t, the women in that film asked for lessons in filmmaking and we trained them. These are women had little or no formal education but they learnt quickly. Susan, assisted by Mohamed Kamara, taught camera, editing and drama techniques and the women made 3 short dramas about sexual health and fistula. They were then screened to local villages and 200-300 people turned out to watch. Because they were made by local people the message was much stronger and these screenings will be continued after the corona virus emergency.
The women have now formed their own media group and we are looking for support for that. We hope to continue this model in other places.
